FAQ

How are we different from other programs?

Breakthrough to Paradise takes pride in being the only trauma-informed mentorship program in Colorado. Our curriculum is designed specifically for adolescents who have recently been hospitalized or are experiencing mental health challenges that interfere with daily living.

What is trauma-informed mentorship?

FAQ

Trauma-informed mentorship is a way of guiding and supporting someone while being sensitive to their past experiences of trauma. It means understanding that their past might affect how they respond to challenges and interactions. Our mentors approach the relationship with empathy and patience, create a safe and supportive environment, and avoid triggering or re-traumatizing your loved one. The goal is to help them grow and succeed while being mindful of their emotional and psychological needs.

Our mentors attend mandatory training to ensure that they take a trauma-informed approach to mentorship. Topics include: Trauma-informed care, HIPPA, verbal de-escalation, sexual harassment, suicide prevention, diversity and inclusion, and more.
